Take the plunge....

Plucking up the courage to join a dance class can be quite challenging for most people. You may have concerns about how you conduct yourself on the dance floor? Will you experience any difficulty learning? Rest assured everybody has these feelings at first, you are not alone. Dancing is a fabulous hobby with many benefits, providing you have good instruction it should be easy to pick up. Everyone attending the class will be a beginner on the same level as you, you will learn together.

I have gathered some useful comments over the past few months that may be helpful to you.

DANCING IS SUPPOSED TO BE FUN!!! If you have a good instructor he or she will help you realise this from the very first lesson or class.

DANCING IS SUPPOSED TO BE A CASUAL ACTIVITY, as above dancing is fun, there are no formal introductions, just step up to a partner introduce yourself on first name basis and away you go. There is no friendlier other sport or hobby.

No special clothes or outfits are required, whilst you are learning you may dress however you like, no fancy outfits are needed. To start with trainers are also fine but as you progress you may wish to purchase a pair of dance shoes. Most importantly make sure you are COMORTABLE with what you are wearing.

Dancing is considered a close contact sport, be careful with belt buckles, jewellery or any sharp objects that may harm another dancer or yourself.

Physical exercise and sometimes nerves whilst learning can lead to perspiration. Be kind enough to use appropriate deodorant and avoid embarrassment.

Try to avoid consuming any alcohol before a class or lesson it won’t do you any favours.

GENTS, be careful with the ladies you will have strength and weight advantages and they won’t like it if you treat them rough. Let them enjoy it too and you will both see the advantages of dancing quicker.

LISTEN to your instructor, it will help you learn faster and in turn boast the confidence of the class.

If you miss a step or don’t understand what is being taught let your instructor know he or she will be more than happy to help.

Feelings of shyness or embarrassment will soon pass just try to follow instruction and you will be dancing without worrying before you know it.

Dancing should be relaxing, TAKE IT EASY!! There’s no hard work involved take it at your own pace and most importantly ENJOY IT!!

Make sure you are on time to every class it’s not fair on others if they have to wait for you.
